Women’s boxing consensus pound-for-pound #1 ranked fighter, Cecilia Braekhus (23-0, 7 KOs) of Bergen, Norway, will defend her WBA, WBC, & WBO welterweight titles against Myriam Lamare (22-3, 10 KOs) of Marseille, France, on January 18 at Arena Nord, Frederikshavn, Denmark.
Lamare, a former WBA, WIBF, IBF, and WBF light-welterweight champion is a worthy opponent holding victories over Ann Saccurato, Lucia Morelli, and Chevelle Hallback. On November 30 Lamare returned to the ring after a 13-month layoff winning an 8-round unanimous decision over the hard-punching Loli Munoz. “This is a tough start of the new year,” the First Lady said from her training base in Berlin. “Lamare is one of the best girls out there, she is a former champion and has been in the ring with the best fighters. She always comes to fight. This will be a difficult title defence for me. I have big plans for 2014 and I am determined to get the New Year off to a successful start in Frederikshavn” said Braekhus.
Since winning the WBA & WBC welterweight belts in 2009 with victory over Vinni Skovgaard (UD-10), Braekhus has notched twelve successful defenses of each and added the WBO welterweight title in 2010 successfully defending it eight times.
