On January 18 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Monica Silvina Acosta (19-0, 5 KOs) will defend her WBA female light welterweight title against Argentine compatriot, Ana Laura Esteche (9-3-1, 2 KOs). Acosta won the WBC female light welterweight title in June 2009 defended the belt successfully seven times before abandoning the strap. Acosta further impressed by winning the WBA female light welterweight title in February 2011 with a close decision victory over power-puncher Alejandra Marina Oliveras. She has defended the WBA title twice most recently stopping Belinda Laracuente in the seventh round back in August.
Esteche, in 2012, twice failed to lift the WBO female lightweight title from Puerto Escondido, Columbia’s Enis Pacheco. Most recently she was on the short end of a unanimous decision to Victoria Noelia Bustos in a bid for the Argentine and IBF female lightweight titles.
