Bouvier UD-10 Alvarez: retains IBF flyweight belt

On April 11 in Maldonado, Uruguay, 22-year-old Gabriela “La Gaby” Bouvier (12-4-1, 2 KOs) Maldonado, Uruguay, defended the IBF female flyweight title for the first time with a ten-round unanimous decision (100-91/98-92/99-91) over the hard punching Carolina “La Fiera” Alvarez (11-6-2, 8 KOs) Caracas, Venezuela. In her fifth attempt at a world title, Bouvier won the title in October 2013 defeating Florencia Roxana Canteros (UD-10). Previously, Bouvier lost bids for world titles in the flyweight and super-flyweight divisions to nothing but élite competition: Zulina Munoz, Mariana Juarez (twice), and Debora Anahi Dionicius. The 36-year-old Alvarez, who drops to (0-5) in world title fights was once a viable contender, has failed to defeat a fighter with a winning record since 2007, can now be considered nothing more than an opponent.
