Kulakova vs Esteche

On June 1 at the Arena Mytishchi in Mytishchi, Russia, Ana Laura “La Monita” Esteche of San Martin, Argentina, travels abroad to defend the WBA female light-welterweight title against the interim champion, Svetlana Kulakova of Moscow, Russia. In January 2014 Esteche (10-3-1, 2 KOs), elevated from lightweight to defeat long time WBA female light-welterweight champion, Monica Silvina Acosta by a wide margined unanimous decision. At the time of the victory, the defeat of Acosta was considered a major upset since Esteche twice unsuccessfully battled for lightweight world titles. The 31-year-old Kulakova (9-0, 1 KO) returned to the ring in 2012 after a five-year hiatus from the ring. She defeated three nondescript opponents before besting the speedy Judy Waguthii (UD-10) in August 2013 winning the interim WBA light-welterweight title in the process. Kulakova has a supreme sense of range, but is predictable with her punch patterns throwing mostly straight punches with little verve to her movement. The 23-year-old Esteche has considerably more ability and is likely a future star of the sport, but faces an uphill battle in the home country of Kulakova. Prediction: Kulakova MD-10
