Heather Hardy At Barclays in June

One of the most recognizable fighters in New York City, regardless of gender, Brooklyn’s Heather “The Heat” Hardy, on June 14 will compete in the first-ever female professional prize-fight at the Barclays Center when she battles Plattsburgh’s Jackie “The Force” Trivilino in a scheduled eight round affair. The fight, although neatly tucked away on the undercard of the HBO Boxing After Dark telecast, is a much-needed shot in the arm for women’s boxing. As an opponent, Trivilino (9-7-3, 1 KO) is similar to Hardy (9-0, 2 KOs) in that both are former national amateur champions, 32-years-old, and both own crowd-pleasing styles. Trivilino has won numerous “fight of the night” awards at the Turning Stone Casino and Hardy’s fist-flying affairs at the Roseland Ballroom have been well documented. Which fighter will triumph is uncertain, but the Barclays Center is in for eight rounds of intense drama.

On Memorial Day women’s amateur boxing received national exposure when PFC Alex Love won a decision over 17-year-old Julie LaDisa, Bronx, New York, on a Golden Boy Promotions Pro/Amateur card from Fort Bliss, Texas, and was televised on Fox Sports 1. Love of Seattle, Washington, is part of the US Army World Class Athlete Program (WCAP) and competed in the first-ever USA Boxing Olympic Trials for female boxers in 2012. Love is currently ranked #2 in the 106 pound weight class by USA Boxing.
