On June 28 at the Sheraton Hotel in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Dahiana Santana, 123, in front of her hometown fans, established herself as one of the première featherweights in women’s boxing by winning the interim WBA female featherweight title with a one-sided unanimous decision victory (99 ½-92/100-90/100-90) over contender Francia Elana Bravo, 124. For Bravo (16-4-2, 9 KOs) of Cerete, Colombia, the loss ends her seven-fight win streak, the longest such streak of her career. With the win, Santana (34-6, 14 KOs) becomes a two-time world featherweight champion having previously held the IBF title. With the WBA belt firmly around her waist, the 29-year-old Santana now owns a bargaining chip in the belt game at featherweight.
