Amasheh Drops Belts

At the Saarlandhalle in Saarbruecken, Germany, Amira Hamzaoui (11-1, 5 KOs) Epernay, France, scores a minor upset by winning a split-decision over Raja Amasheh (17-1-1, 4 KOs) Karlsruhe, Germany, by the scores (97-94/97-94/98-94). With the win, Hamzaoui wins the WBC Silver female flyweight title and the WBF female flyweight title, both of which previously belonged to Amasheh.

Hamzaoui, 32, in a tightly contested affair, boxed well from the outside countering the former champions aggressive attacks. The now deposed Amasheh, 32, won the titles in May defeating Susana Cruz-Perez at the same venue.

The regular WBC female flyweight champion is Shindo Go of Japan. Go was scheduled to defend against Arely Mucino in late September, but the bout was cancelled due to an arm injury to the champion, Go.
