#7 Layla McCarter (36-13-5, 8 KOs)

Age: 35

Hometown: Las Vegas

Turned Pro: 1998

I likely underrated her for the duration of my pound-for-pound rankings (4 years). Her win over Diana Prazak (TKO-7) in BKB was stellar and a clinic in counter-punching and efficient movement. At 35, she looks to be at the peak of her career. Her pinpoint, counter-punching can only be rivaled by Marcela Eliana Acuna (Argentina).

Spin: Now is the time for a fight with Amanda Serrano, who boasts the WBO lightweight title. The contrast in styles would make for a great matchup.

#1 Cecilia Braekhus (27-0, 7 KOs)

Age: 33

Residence: Bergen, Norway

Turned Pro: 2007

The “First Lady of Boxing” will be cooperating with Wladimir Klitschko/K2 Promotions and IMG. She has left Sauerland Promotions. Braekhus holds the four major welterweight titles (WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBF), but currently not scheduled to defend her title.

Spin: Since she is calling her shots, look for Braekhus to fight in Norway, which recently legalized boxing. Braekhus was the main thrust of the process that allowed boxing to be legalized in Norway. Her contract with Sauerland expired in February.
