The WBC World female super-welterweight champion (154 lbs.) Mikaela Lauren (24-3, 9 KOs) of Stockholm, Sweden, will face the current WBO World female super-welterweight champion, Hanna Gabriel (14-1-1, 10 KOs) of Costa Rica, on June 6 in Lauren’s hometown of Stockholm. Lauren, 39, won the above mentioned vacant WBC title in November with a ten-round majority decision over American Aleksandra Magdziak Lopes. In March, Lauren stopped Celia Rosa Sierra (TKO-3) in a non-title fight; it will be the first defense of the WBC title for Lauren.
In December, Gabriel returned to the ring after nearly a two-year hiatus (childbirth) to reclaim the above mentioned WBO title that she lost to Oxandia Castillo (TKO-2) in February 2013 by stopping Paty Ramirez (TKO-2).
Both fighters fight out of the orthodox stance. Gabriel owns considerable punching power and is considered a slugger whereas Lauren is aggressive but employs the style of a boxer-puncher.
I will issue a breakdown of the fight closer to the June 6th fight date.
