On May 9 southpaw Yuko Kuroki, 104 ¾, of Fukuoka, Japan, successfully defended her WBC World female minimumweight title for the second time with a ten-round unanimous decision over Masae Akitaya, 105, of Toyonaka, Osaka, Japan, by the scores of (98-92/ 97-93/ 97-93).
With the win, Kuroki, 24, improved to (13-4-1, 6 KOs) whereas the 37-year-old challenger Akitaya dropped to (9-6-2, 3 KOs) with the loss.
The loss was the first world title challenge for Akitaya. Kuroki is enjoying her first reign as a world champion, unsuccessfully challenging Etsuko Tada for the WBA World female minimumweight title in March 2013.
