On August 14 at Club Comunicaciones in Pergamino, Buenos Aires, Argentina, hometown favorite Anahi Esther Sanchez, 125 ¾, won the interim WBA World female featherweight title with a unanimous decision victory (99-91/97-93/97-93) over defending title holder Dahiana Santana, 125 ¼, of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. It was the first defense of the title for Santana.
With the win, Sanchez, in her first bout past six rounds, improves to (11-0, 4 KOs). Before the victory over Santana, the quality of opposition on the docket of the new champion was spotty at best. She does own a six-round unanimous decision victory over Natalia Vanesa del Valle Aguirre (7-6-3) who is a fringe contender at both super-featherweight and lightweight.
With the loss, Santana drops to (34-7, 14 KOs). She previously held the IBF featherweight title (three defenses) and won the interim WBA strap in June 2014 with a decision win over Francia Elena Bravo.
