Gerry Weber Stadium, Halle, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany
Cecilia Braekhus, 146 ¾, inactive since November 2015, dominated Chris Namus, 146 ½, in route to a ten-round, unanimous decision victory with each assigned judge submitting the identical score of 100-90. With the win, Braekhus improves to a perfect 28-0, 7 KOs and retains the WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBF World female welterweight titles. To boot, Braekhus now boasts the previously vacant IBO World female welterweight title. Namus, Montevideo, Uruguay, failed in three previous attempts at legitimate world female super-lightweight titles, drops to a respectable 21-4, 8 KOs as her first venture in the welterweight ranks ends in a loss.
With the win, the 34-year-old Braekhus of Bergen, Norway, likely returns to her lofty perch as the pound-for-pound best in women’s boxing with only Delfine Persoon of Belgium having a legitimate argument to the honor.
