Roman Wins IBF Bantamweight Strap

Salon Tattersall, San Isidro, Buenos Aires, Argentina:
In a major upset, Maria Cecilia Roman, 117 ¼, in only her second ten-round bout, won the IBF World female bantamweight title with a split-decision victory (95-94/96-94/94-96) over former two-time bantamweight champion Carolina Raquel Duer who also scaled 117 ¼. Roman, 34, who lost four of her first five bouts to begin her career, improves to (10-4-1, 0 KOs) and adds the IBF title to the Argentina female bantamweight title that she won in September 2016. The 38-year-old Duer, who earlier in the decade, enjoyed a five-year run as the WBO World female bantamweight champion, drops to (19-4-1, 6 KOs) and has apparently seen her better days as a boxer.
